This article, published in the journal Neuropediatrics, discusses a rare condition called Pott's puffy tumor (PPT), which is characterized by osteomyelitis of the frontal bone with abscess formation. The article presents a case study of an 8-year-old boy who had a complicated presentation of PPT. The patient initially had symptoms of headache, forehead swelling, and a low-grade fever, but these symptoms resolved before he was admitted to the hospital. However, a small protrusion reappeared on his forehead, and imaging tests revealed sinusitis with frontal osteomyelitis and subperiosteal abscess, as well as an epidural and subdural abscess. The patient underwent surgical drainage and received antibiotics, and after four weeks, he was discharged without any deficits. The article emphasizes the importance of considering PPT in cases of forehead swelling with sinusitis and highlights the need for prompt diagnosis and treatment to prevent intracranial complications.
