Osteoporosis is a common clinical disease of bone metabolism associated with aging, and its prevalence increases with age. The primary cause of this disease is the imbalance of bone metabolism due to insufficient bone formation to offset the excessive bone resorption. Osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells is a key process in maintaining bone formation, and the decline in osteogenic differentiation ability of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells caused by senescence plays a vital role in the pathological mechanism of osteoporosis. In this light, the present article summarizes the senescence mechanism of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and its relationship with osteoporosis, and intends to provide a new perspective for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.
