This editorial explores the relationship between railways and sustainable tourism, with a focus on the potential for digital transformation to enhance this sector. It emphasizes the environmental benefits of railways as a mode of transportation and their ability to provide scenic experiences. The article also discusses the use of digital technologies in documenting and enhancing cultural heritage associated with railways. It mentions the RailToLand project, which aimed to communicate European Cultural Landscapes through trains and involved several European institutions. The editorial concludes by summarizing three contributions from the Special Issue, which cover topics such as the use of innovative technologies in tourism, optimizing slow tourism routes, and the role of nature-oriented tourism in revitalization strategies. The text also discusses two specific contributions related to sustainable tourism and heritage railways, which propose a GIS mapping method to create slow-tourism routes and evaluate the heritage value of a mountain railway line in Romania.
