A survey conducted by the American Nurses Foundation and McKinsey revealed that more than half of nurses in the United States reported symptoms of burnout. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the challenges faced by nurses, including job-related stress and burnout. The survey also found that turnover and intent to leave among nurses remain high, with factors such as feeling undervalued, insufficient staffing, and inadequate compensation influencing their decisions. Mental health and well-being challenges among nurses were also highlighted, with a majority of nurses experiencing symptoms of burnout and feeling a great deal of stress. Despite this, many nurses are not currently receiving mental health support, and there is still stigma attached to mental health challenges. The report suggests that stakeholders should take steps to support nurses' mental health and well-being, including addressing workload and administrative burden, increasing availability and accessibility of evidence-based resources, and bolstering skills and capabilities. Overall, efforts to improve nurses' mental health and well-being are crucial for the sustainability and fulfillment of the nursing profession. [Extracted from the article] |
