A systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by researchers at Federal University in Passo Fundo, Brazil, aimed to assess the impact of Helicobacter pylori infection on postoperative outcomes following laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). The analysis included 13 studies comprising 6,199 patients and found that H. pylori infection was correlated with higher rates of overall postoperative complications and staple line leak. However, there were no significant differences in hospital length of stay or postoperative bleeding rates. The researchers concluded that further prospective randomized studies are needed to evaluate the effect of preoperative H. pylori screening and eradication. [Extracted from the article] |
