A recent study conducted by researchers from the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery compared the efficacy of erector spinae plane block and paravertebral block for thoracoscopic surgery. The researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials and found that paravertebral block may be more effective than erector spinae plane block in providing pain relief after thoracoscopic surgery. The study also found that paravertebral block resulted in significantly reduced pain scores at 12 hours and postoperative anesthesia consumption compared to erector spinae plane block. However, the two groups had similar pain scores at 1-2 hours and 4-6 hours, as well as incidence of nausea and vomiting. [Extracted from the article] |
