A recent qualitative study conducted by the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom explores the challenges of measuring health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in children aged 5-11 years. The study involved interviews with 18 professionals experienced in child HRQoL measurement, including academics, researchers, and clinicians. The research highlights the uncertainty surrounding the conceptualization of HRQoL for children, the challenges of proxy reporting, and the difficulty of interpreting changes in HRQoL over time. The study also suggests that digital ecological momentary assessment (EMA) could potentially enhance HRQoL measurement by providing in-the-moment, repeated measurement and addressing challenges of recall and variability. However, participants also raised methodological, practical, and ethical challenges associated with digital approaches. The research concludes by discussing potential future research to further explore and develop this approach. [Extracted from the article] |
