Researchers at the Medical University of Bialystok in Poland have conducted a study on the relationship between progesterone and colorectal cancer (CRC) progression. The study found that there is a weak expression of the nuclear progesterone receptor (PGR), but an abundant expression of the progesterone receptor membrane component 1 (PGRMC1) and neuron-derived neurotrophic factor (NENF) in CRC tissues. Treatment with progesterone stimulated the proliferation of CRC cells, and co-treatment with progesterone and NENF increased the invasiveness of the cells. The study suggests that NENF could potentially serve as a biomarker for distinguishing between CRC patients and healthy individuals. [Extracted from the article] |
