The Medicem Institute in Prague, Czech Republic has been granted a patent for a light-adjustable hydrogel and bioanalogic intraocular lens. The patent, filed in October 2019 and published in October 2023, describes the development of intraocular lenses (IOLs) that can replace or supplement the natural crystalline lens in the eye. The inventors propose using hyperbolic and meniscoid surfaces to create IOLs with positive polyfocality and improved optical performance. The lens is designed to closely resemble the natural lens and can be adjusted using multi-photon absorption to change the refractive index in selected areas. [Extracted from the article] |
