A recent study conducted by researchers at Liverpool John Moores University examined the use of the Centre for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D) in predicting cognitive decline. The study compared the 10-, 14-, and 20-item versions of the CES-D and found that all versions significantly predicted progression to cognitive decline. The 14-item version was found to be better than the 20-item version in predicting consensus diagnosis and showed the highest accuracy in discriminating between participants by diagnosis. The study did not find any significant differences in the relationship between CES-D score and cognitive decline based on sex. Overall, the findings suggest that the 10- and 14-item versions of the CES-D are comparable to the 20-item version and may be better predictors of cognitive decline. [Extracted from the article] |
