A study conducted at Bogazici University explores the use of polymeric microgels as drug delivery carriers. The researchers focused on the loading and release of hydrophobic drugs, specifically curcumin, and found that effective drug loading can be achieved through the design of porous particles and the use of supramolecular cyclodextrin-based curcumin complexes. The study also demonstrated that microgels with higher porosity had better curcumin loading. The findings provide valuable insights for the development of tailored drug delivery systems using a microfluidics-based platform and offer a strategy for the effective delivery of hydrophobic therapeutic agents like curcumin through supramolecular complexation.
