Breastfeeding is the first guarantee of the human right to adequate food and the benefits of continued breastfeeding up to 2 years of age are well established. This cross-sectional study sought to explore the association between socioeconomic, demographic, and nutritional factors and the practice of continued breastfeeding in children aged 6 to 24 months assisted by the Brazilian conditional cash transfer program, Bolsa Família. Our findings emphasize the role of unfavorable socioeconomic conditions in diminishing the practice of continued breastfeeding. They also suggest the importance of policy-level actions to promote and support breastfeeding and to combat early ultra-processed foods consumption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
