Abstrakt: An adult female in her 40s presented with acute vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. Infective causes were excluded and a CT scan demonstrated inflammation within the gastrointestinal tract and ascites. A marked blood eosinophilia pointed towards eosinophilic inflammation within the gastrointestinal tract and after endoscopic investigation and exclusion of other causes, she was diagnosed with eosinophilic gastroenteritis. This is a rare but increasingly prevalent chronic inflammatory condition postulated to be triggered by food antigens and treated with corticosteroids, dietary exclusion and other steroid-sparing therapies. It should be considered in patients presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms with marked blood eosinophilia, tissue eosinophilia on gastrointestinal biopsy or where there is evidence of gastrointestinal inflammation and other more common causes have been excluded.
