The complex interaction of the spindle group parts during operation gives reason to consider the spindle run-out as a stationary random process. Four diagnostic groups of runout curve sweeps by frequency components are distinguished. The discrete Fourier transform (DFT) apparatus and the specially developed software module "DTFourier" are used for the analysis. The non-contact optical scheme of measuring the spindle movement due to the laser ray modulation by the edge of the grinding mandrel allows to measure both in statics and in dynamics with the application of working loads. The technique was tested on the data of recording the run-out of the spindle of the machine tool model 16K20T1. A discrete Fourier analysis of the spindle run-out curve made it possible to fully diagnose the run-out quality of the assembly and the effect of individual errors on the accuracy and quality of machining during longitudinal sharpening.
