Abstrakt: The article explores the intertwining themes of fate, fairy tales, and realism in Thomas Hardy's novels, with a particular emphasis on "Tess of the D'Urbervilles." It argues that despite the tragic outcomes in Hardy's works, he strategically employs elements of traditional fairy tales to create and subvert expectations, challenging the notion of "happily ever after" and prompting a reconsideration of the relationship between fairy tales and novels.
