The architectural style and features of the traditional settlements of the Dong ethnic group in Guizhou are remarkable. It is of great practical significance to identify and summarize the architectural types and features, analyze its formation mechanism and summarize the basic laws for the protection and development of the traditional settlements. On the basis of literature analysis and field investigation, the landscape gene theory is introduced to identify and extract the architectural genes of Sizhai Dong village. The genetic maps of architectural layout, facade configuration, structure, building materials and colors, and decoration are made, from which the formation mechanism, image characteristics and cultural connotation of architectural genes are revealed.
