Abstrakt: The article discusses the evolution of correctional law and inmate rights in the U.S. It mentions that in the late 1960s, terms like "correctional law" and "inmate rights" were unfamiliar, but a case filed in 1969, Holt v. Sarver, marked the beginning of inmate litigation challenging conditions and practices in prisons which case led to a recognition that prisons must meet constitutional requirements, regardless of resource constraints.
