The preparation of fine ammonium perchlorate (AP) particles and its thermal behavior are the most important properties in propellants. In this study, the effects of temperature, pressure, solvent type (water and ethanol), and anticaking agent- sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) were investigated on the AP particles using the Taguchi approach in high-rate cooling crystallization process (HRCCP). The average particle size (APS) of AP particles was calculated using laser mass spectrometry (LMS-30). The results showed that the anti-caking agent and solvent type were represented the main effect on the preparation of micronized AP particles, based on analysis of variance. Furthermore, the optimum condition was ethanol solvent, 10 atm pressure, 0.4% SDS, and 60 °C temperature. Also, the thermal behavior of the optimized particles was investigated using TG/DSC analysis.
