Butterfly jewelry: An alternative solution for auto-finance butterfly.

Abstrakt: Butterfly is very well known for its beauty. Many people try to have butterfly-related collection in the form of jewelry, framed butterfly, painting, and so on. Hence, the life of butterfly is always in danger. It is observed that the number of species and population are gradually decreased. Efforts for butterfly preservation have been initiated but have problem with funding. Relying on ticket sales to run butterfly park is very difficult. Attempts to generate funds for covering preservation expenses are needed. This paper aims to introduce an alternative solution to rare animal preservation financial problem, especially butterfly. How to turn a fund consuming activity into a self-financing system is the focus of the discussion. The research adopt design thinking and TRIZ 40 inventive principles to generate ideas and concept of solutions. The selected concept is then evaluated and validated. The value improvement principle is investigated by analyzing value adding activities in gemstone industry since there are similarities on how to improve the value of the gemstone and the butterfly. A solution proposal for auto-finance butterfly preservation has been introduced and investigated. It is observed that by turning beautiful wing from dead butterfly into jewelry, a significant value added can be achieved. The process optimization of cutting and coating is very important to be explored in order to improve the quality of product.
