Abstrakt: The Santos Enslaved and Enslaver Dataset (SEED) is a comprehensive record of enslaved individuals and their enslavers in Santos, Brazil from 1800 to 1888. The dataset, created between 2003 and 2006, cross-references information from 13 Brazilian archives and 43 primary source types, providing detailed insights into the lives and experiences of enslaved people. It contains over 42,806 entries, with more than 1,960 individuals identified and cross-referenced through multiple historical sources. The dataset is particularly valuable for researchers interested in the history of slavery in Brazil and the Americas, as many of the archival sources included in SEED are not digitized and therefore inaccessible outside of Santos. The SEED offers an innovative approach to understanding the diverse narratives and social patterns of enslaved individuals, providing a more holistic view of their lives.
