In today’s rapidly changing global business environment, organizations rely on their information technology infrastructure to coordinate global operations. An important part of this infrastructure is a company’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. While common wisdom suggests that a company’s ERP architecture should be designed on a global basis to align with the strategies and organizational structures, little is known about how these systems are implemented in practice. A case study was conducted to explore how ERP architecture is established in a global corporation. The results indicated that global ERP architecture may not be designed with as much coordination with the business strategies and structures as prior literature suggests. Instead, global ERP architecture evolves to meet the organization’s evolving needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
