This article examines the relationship between socioeconomic factors and household income levels in coastal and island communities in South Sulawesi. The study finds that age, education, and occupation significantly impact family income in poor coastal communities. The research suggests targeted interventions such as free education and alternative livelihoods to reduce poverty. The text also discusses various theories on the causes of poverty, including economic underdevelopment, cultural beliefs, and structural factors.
