Colloidal silver nanoparticle synthesis and stability study in chitosan using hydrazine sulfate.

Abstrakt: As a mild reductant, hydrazine sulfate was utilized to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from AgNO3 in the capping and stabilizing of chitosan. The formation of colloid AgNPs is clearly indicated by a change of color from bluish-purple to brownish-yellow, which corresponds to a characteristic Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) at around 418–431 nm. UV–Vis spectroscopy revealed the influence of chitosan and silver precursor concentration on the size and shape homogeneity of AgNPs. Face-centered cubic (fcc) crystalline phase with a unit cell of 0.4098 nm is formed in spherical AgNPs with diameters of 19–20 nm. The pseudo-second reaction order governs the initial rates of AgNPs nucleation. The colloid AgNPs produced were found to be relatively stable for a month and to be affected by the concentrations of all reactans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
