Marine sand can be categorized as uniformly grain-size distribution. The sand is easily lose its shear strength in a loose condition and under a cyclic loading. This paper presents research on the utilizing of geopolymer as a stabilizing material for improving the shear strength of marine sand. This study aims to examine the shear strength characteristics of geopolymer stabilized sand by unconsolidated-undrained (UU) triaxial testing. The objective of study is to investigate the effect of molarity concentration of the NaOH on the undrained shear strength behavior of geopolymer-treated marine sand. The geopolymer was made of fly ash obtained from the Tanjung Jati power plant in Jepara. The alkaline activator solution was NaOH with a molarity concentration of 12M and 14M and a Na2SiO3:NaOH ratio of 2. The UU triaxial shear test was conducted on the cured specimens after 14 days curing. The experiments conclude that in general, the peak deviatoric stress increases with cell pressure. However, the peak deviatoric stress increase slightly with cell pressure for specimen stabilized with 14M NaOH. The cohesion of 14M NaOH is higher than the 12M NaOH, whereas the internal friction angle of 14M NaOH is lower than the 12M NaOH. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
