Building maintenance management system in the University of Sierra Leone.

Abstrakt: To improve the upkeep of buildings, you'll need a better maintenance management system. However, maintenance of university buildings experiences difficulties in implementing a proper maintenance management system, such as maintenance backlogs, insufficient funding allocation, an absence of an effective maintenance management system, an ineffective maintenance department, and a lack of a maintenance policy and lack of staff training. An effective maintenance system that includes maintenance, repair, and reconstruction must always be planned to meet the university's needs and issues building maintenance and functionality. Therefore, to create a conducive atmosphere that facilitates and promotes learning, teaching, creativity, and study, university buildings need maintenance. The purpose of this study is to is to examine the current building maintenance management system for university buildings and highlight the inadequacies in its implementation. This research adopts the form of a questionnaire survey. A structured questionnaire was developed and administered for this study to obtain the data related to the objective. The survey questionnaire encapsulated building maintenance management system in terms of policy and strategic planning and maintenance implementation. The data were analysed with Microsoft Excel (2019), Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software, and the results were then presented in tables and figures. The findings revealed that the University of Sierra Leone's building maintenance is not properly structured and documented, and the university also lacks a suitable building maintenance policy. The survey results also revealed that the lack of proper maintenance policies and insufficient funding are the main factors hindering the integration of an effective maintenance management system for the university. Eventually, the findings revealed that the university's maintenance department lacked a computerized maintenance records database and did perform unplanned maintenance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
