The subversion of the body and mind of women is a complex and pervasive issue that has been present throughout history. It takes many forms, from physical violence and sexual assault to more subtle forms of discrimination and social conditioning. However, even less overt forms of violence, such as verbal harassment and intimidation, can significantly impact women's wellbeing and sense of safety. This paper is an exploration of Atwood's novel Bodily Harm to expose the inhuman and stigmatic attitudes meted out against women by subverting their bodies and minds. Further, this paper is based on the argument that power politics, gender discrimination, and trauma reflect changes in the lives of Rennie, the protagonist, and other female characters while pointing out the problems they face and the reasons for the problems.
