Abstrakt: Participants identified a need to clearly define the roles and responsibilities of local health officials during public health emergencies, as well as the need to define the roles and responsibilities of public health emergency preparedness staff. Volunteerism Overall, participants agreed that volunteerism played an essential role in supplementing the public health workforce needs of health departments during the COVID-19 emergency response. Tasked with responding to the pandemic on US soil, the governmental public health workforce consists of those who work for official public health agencies at all levels of government, community-based and voluntary organizations with a health promotion focus, the public health-related staff of hospitals and healthcare systems, and a range of others in private industry engaged in work that creates the conditions within which people can be healthy.[3] Funding for the governmental public health workforce to respond to all-hazards threats at the state and local levels comes from a variety of sources.
