Abstrakt: Cucurbitaceous vegetables are predominantly cultivated during summer months in tropical and sub-tropical regions around the globe. Cucurbits play a significant role in ensuring food security and nutrition of marginalized communities in these areas. The crop is impacted by various abiotic stresses limiting the sustainable production. Shallow feeder roots coupled with large leaf area of cucurbits make these crops more sensitive to abiotic stress. Plant rhizosphere microorganisms and endophytes establish beneficial association with the host plant, facilitating plant growth and yield. Microbe-mediated approaches to alleviate stresses are a sustainable eco-friendly strategy especially in the context of climate change scenario. Mitigation of the impacts induced by abiotic stresses are attained through various metabolites produced by microbes which makes the plant to modify physiological and biochemical pathways, resulting in better adaptation. The current review highlights the effects of various abiotic stresses in cucurbits and the role played by microorganisms in mitigating the stresses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
