Abstrakt: Lee Kuan Yew is a great statesman who has consistently pushed the national growth agenda while incorporating a dash of local wisdom. It translates to a paternalistic leadership style inspired by Chinese society's traditional culture, especially Confucius' values. For the three years of leadership from 1981 to 1983, a qualitative research approach was used to analyse the quality of speech texts. The text selection includes four speeches: New Year's Speech, Chinese New Year's Speech, Labor Day Speech and National Day Speech. The coding of the Value Dimension covers i) power orientation, ii) family, iii) work ethic and iv) society. It has been discovered that the dimension of Work Ethics Values is the most dominant and outweighs the other dimensions. It exemplifies paternalism by encouraging good and near relationships between leaders and subordinates through encouragement. Leaders are seen as fathers who are in charge of inspiring their subordinates, whereas subordinates exhibit loyalty to the leadership. The call for greater competitiveness through education and training ensures the sustainable growth of human resources and national development. He also called for disciplined work culture, thus emphasising the power of authority in his leadership style. The results drawn from these observations can be applied to future leadership in Singapore and leadership in other parts of Asia. It also provides guidance to many Asian countries in redefining national values and human security. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
