Abstrakt: This article presents information on the genital manifestations in women with AIDS. Many different genital lesions have been associated with HIV infection. Some, such as candidiasis, atypical herpes simplex ulceration, and Molluscum contagiosum, can be early manifestations of HIV-associated immune deficiency, or clinical markers of disease progression in a patient known to be HIV-infected. When evaluating a genital lesion indicative of immunodeficiency in a patient with unknown HIV status, the physician should consider HIV infection, particularly in the absence of other causes of immunodeficiency. The associations of sexually transmitted diseased (STDs) and HIV infection is common, because they have similar modes of transmission. In HIV-infected pregnant women, the presence of STDs increases the risk of perinatal transmission of HIV. Hence, it is essential that these infections are diagnosed early in pregnancy and treated promptly.
