The article reports on the production of railroad wheels with more durable rims. New approaches were needed to master the production of railroad wheels for railcars with a large axial load. The wheels had to be sufficiently reliable in service and have excellent resistance to wear and shock loads. The steps taken to realize these improvements included modifications to the methods used to make the steel, treat it outside the furnace, and heat-treat the wheels. Vyksa Metallurgical Plant has analyzed the effect of the composition and structure of the steel on the mechanical properties of the rails normally made by the plant. |
