Abstrakt: The gear is an essential component of the mechanical power transmission system. These gears were used in a wide range of applications, from little wristwatches to heavy machinery. Such as automobiles, aerospace, rolling mills, marine engines, and transmission machinery. Spur gears are a toothed component with a cylindrical shape that is used in industrial equipment to transmit mechanical motion and regulate speed, power, and torque. Gear failures occur when the contact stress exceeds the material's surface fatigue strength and due to repeated loading of the tooth surface and lubrication failure in the contact region and establishment of metal to metal contact. These failure can be avoided by replacing composite materials in the place of regular gear materials like cast iron, alloys etc.composite materials provides good mechanical properties over alloys such as better strength to weight ratio, more hardness hence less chances of failure. In this project the gear dimensions are taken from the practically applied spur gear used in gear box of TATA super ACE mint commercial vehicle. We redesign model in CATIA software, by using the ANSYS software we simulate the spur gear in various loading conditions with different material properties, according to the simulation results we conclude that which is the best material for manufacturing, ANSYS will help us to save time and money of traditional lab testing of each gear, these analysis will help us to avoid failures at design phase only.
