Effect of Backfilling Material on the Deformation of Buried Pipeline Adjacent Trench Excavation.

Abstrakt: The aim of this study is to examine the deformation characteristics of UPVC pipes with a diameter of 0.40 near the staged drilling trench by adopting a numerical model (PLAXIS 3D) by using standard backfill and same natural soil surrounding the pipe. Two cases of tube loading, loading and unloading (empty) have been examined using three tube surface points Crown Center (CC), left middle (CL) and Central Tip (CT) and in two cases of backfill. Then the deformations of the tubes have been compared at three points and additionally the deformations of the loaded and empty tubes have been examined in two cases of backfill near the trench. The results have showed that the pipe deformation is up by 63% of the final vertical deformation in the failure stage for three examined points in the case of standard backfill and drilling depth equal to 1/3 HP, while the rate of change in vertical deformation has been about 80% in the case of equal drilling depth Hp. As for the contrast of the vertical distortion, the maximum contrast has reached about 20% at the CC point, about 11% at the CL point and the lowest percentage has been on CT. For standard backfill, the digging depth is greater than or equal to Hp, the horizontal deformation is approximately 100% greater than the horizontal deformation for the CL and CT points, and by more than 150% for the CC point. Comparison of these points in the failure phase has showed that the difference between the maximum and the minimum horizontal deformation along the tube section has changed little by 8% at the CT point and about 40% and 25% at the CC and CT points, respectively. The comparison of two cases of tube deformation backfill in the failure stage has also showed that it had vertical and horizontal deformations about seven and five times respectively in standard backfill compared to natural soil backfill.
