Abstrakt: The aim of this study is to investigate the morphometric characteristics of Kuzhithuraiyar sub-basin using geographical information system and digital elevation model (DEM). The morphometric parameters such as linear, aerial, and relief parameters have been derived by mathematical formulas. Seventeen parameters were obtained to know the characteristics of the basin. This 7th-order basin is divided into eight sub-watersheds, viz., five 5th-order sub-watersheds, two 6th-order sub-watersheds, and one 7th-order sub-watershed. The basin shows dendritic drainage pattern. The lowest drainage density (Dd) value is 1.35 for SWS5 and it indicates that it is the highly permeable sub-watershed among the eight sub-watersheds. The least compound factor is 4 for SWS4 and SWS7 and it is given the first rank followed by SWS1 and SWS2, and the highest compound factor is 5.2 for SWS6 and SWS8 and it is ranked as 7. Sustainable groundwater planning and remedial approaches of soil erosion can be done using this prioritization data. This method is very useful in sustainable water resource management, sustainable land use, and scientific planning of sub-watersheds in data scarce areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
