A study is performed of the effect interaction between cosmic rays and the turbulence excited by them in shells of molecular clouds (the self-modulation effect) has on the Galactic gamma-ray emission. The effect of self-modulation is estimated for individaul clouds and the results are integrated over the line of sight along all the molecular clouds falling into the region of interest in the sky. It is shown that the self-modulation of cosmic rays reduces the intensity gamma-ray emission below 1 GeV by 10–30%. Even though the magnitude of this effect is minor, it must be considered when extracting background gamma-ray emission at low energies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
