Abstrakt: Introduction: Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-specific multi-systemic disorder characterized by proteinuria and the onset of hypertension during pregnancy (1, 2) Among the hypertensive disorders that complicate pregnancy, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia stand out as major causes of maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity3. Calcium has an important role in the pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia. The present study was aimed to compare the level of serum calcium in normal pregnant women and in preeclampsia and determine the association of serum calcium with severity of the disease. Study design: The study was carried out in the Department of department of Biochemistry, with the assistance of Obstetric Gynecology Department, MGM Medical College Indore MP. In this study group consisted of 70preeclamptic women and control group consisted of 70 normal pregnant women. After selecting the subjects and controls, informed consent was taken. In the study we took blood samples from study group and controls, attending OPD, in Obstetric Gynecology Department, measured. Sample was analyzed in Biochemistry Lab, with clinical chemistry Analyzer for serum calcium level in both groups. Appropriate statistical test were applied, p value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: In present study we found that in preeclamptic women level of Serum calcium level was significantly decreased in comparison of normal pregnant women also significant negative correlation was observed in serum calcium level blood pressure. Conclusion: low serum calcium level in preeclamptic women of our study suggests its role in the etiopathogenesis of this disorder. Routine estimation of serum calcium may be useful as a diagnostic marker in preeclampsia prevent and reduce pre-eclampsia and eclampsia-associated morbidity and mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
