Abstrakt: Next, child illness appraisals were examined as predictors of caregiver perceptions of FA management and burden to better understand how child perceptions of their FA may impact caregiver outcomes. FA reactions can include a range of symptoms and families are often recommended to avoid the food allergen to manage the illness.[1] FA burden is defined as caregivers' perceived strain and difficulties due to their child's FA. Caregiver-child dyads reported similar perceptions of illness uncertainty and illness intrusiveness, but not illness stigma. After controlling for child age, regression results indicated that child perceptions of important cognitive illness appraisals (i.e., FA-related stigma, illness uncertainty and illness intrusiveness) were unrelated to illness-related management or burden that is experienced by caregivers.
