Study of higher-order thinking skill analysis in mathematical learning on the content of system of linear equations in two variables junior high school.

Abstrakt: This study describes higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in mathematics learning in System of Linear Equations in Two Variables materials at the junior high school. The method used in this writing is a literature study done by tracing various reference libraries in books and articles/journals. Based on the theories studied, skills concluded that higher order thinking skills (HOTS) are critical, creative, logical, reflective, and metacognitive thinking processes. HOTS in mathematics learning, especially in Two-variable linear equation systems' content can be said to be still relatively low because students have difficulty making mathematical models for solving story problems in the Two-Variable Linear Equation System material, which requires high-level thinking skills and difficulty converting story problems into mathematical sentences or performing algebraic operations using elimination methods. In improving Higher-Order Thinking Skill (HOTS), required learning tools that included: Syllabus, Learning Implementation Plan, Teaching Materials, Learning Media, Student Worksheet, and Evaluation Instruments based on HOTS with the selection of effective learning strategies/models to improve Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) namely through a problem-based learning approach or known as the Problem-Based Learning model. The steps in problem-based learning consist of several phases, include (1) Student orientation on problems, (2) Organize students to learn, (3) Guide student inquiry, (4) Develop and present the work, and (5) Analyze and evaluate the breakdown process.
