Abstrakt: This study is to investigate the effect of meshed coconut coir on the mechanical properties like strength and durability properties of meshed coir reinforced concrete. The purpose of adding meshed coconut coir into the reinforced concrete element is to control internal and external cracks. In addition, meshed form of coir's have capacity to control shrinkage and increasing strength and durability. In this phase I experimental investigation, Total nos.49 of samples were prepared which were 28 Cubes (150x150x150mm) and 21 beam prisms (100x100x500mm). Testing was include, water absorption, porosity, sorption rate for physical properties and acid attack resistance, alkaline attack resistance for durability properties, compression and flexural bending strength for mechanical properties. The meshed coir were tested with reinforced cement concrete in the form of treated and non-treated single and double layer. The additional strength of meshed coir is estimated depends upon on the cement and sand proportion by mass volume. Test results show that, despite the fact of that the compressive and flexural bending strength are improving slightly, Also post crack properties such as ductility, residual strength and toughness are increased either higher coconut meshed coir fraction in the matrix.
