Bimetallic Ag-Cu (Ag-core/Cu-shell) and Cu-Ag (Cu–core/Ag-shell) nanocomposite soda lime glasses are synthesised by sequential ion exchange method. Optical absorption spectroscopy has been used to investigate these core-shell metal nanoclusters, and corresponding theoretical spectra were simulated and compared. Calculations were performed using Mie's theory for core-shell nanoclusters in which core radius is kept constant and shell thickness is varied which results blue shift in SPR peak position. The tunable features of surface plasmon resonance of core-shell metal nanoclusters depend on the size, shape, structure, and refractive index of an embedded medium. The effective dielectric constants of various environments like air, soda lime, crown, flint, and sapphire are used to simulate the absorption spectra of both core-shell nanoclusters, which results redshift in surface plasmon resonance peaks. It clearly shows that the SPR peak position not only depends on the embedded metal dielectric constant and also that of embedding medium. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
