Abstrakt: Traditionally pigs are perceived as farm animals, but in the last 70–80 years (Bollen et al., 2010), they have been serving some other purposes, particularly as companion animals. It is necessary to have structured and comprehensive data on the specifics of their perception, communication, and social behavior to manage their behavior and welfare effectively. This article gathers and analyzes information from currently available publications and studies conducted on wild boars, domestic pigs of productive breeds, and miniature pigs, characterizing the functioning of their sense organs and specifics of social behavior and communication with humans.
