Based on the example of a toponym with a hydronym origin in a small and closed geographical area, the paper discusses the significance of homonymy in 12th-14th century sources. In the process of toponym formation, the Sár hydronym first referred to the entire catchment area, later to the estate parts established on it, and finally the settlements of the estates. The Sár name survived as long as the independent name of these did not become widespread and it carried numerous meanings as a homonym. Data repository I includes the occurrences of the Sár toponym in the Árpád Era, indicating the underlying estate parts, while Data repository II Introduces the most important data of these parts and their short history.
