The article substantiates the need to use the methods of economic and mathematical modeling in research of sustainability development, both at the regional level and at the state level. A model for determining the level of sustainability of regional development is proposed, which implements the boundary approach for calculating the sustainability corridor of the key indicators considered in dynamics. The deterministic definition of threshold values of the stability corridor is unified to work with any socio-economic indicators. The versatility of the approach is also realized in the ability to explore both panel data and time series data. In this case, arbitrary taxonomic units can act as the object of research – separate regions, territories of the areal, multicomponent systems. The proposed methodology provides the possibility of clearly identifying problem areas in the studied area and specifies the degree of revealed depression. In the case of an analysis of a specific region, the most unfavorable periods in its economic development are determined, as well as areas of activity that require special attention. The use of rigorous mathematical methods and the use of real statistical data in the analysis make it possible to obtain objective and substantiated assessments of the current state of the region's economy and the stability of the existing trend of its development.
