Five theoretical formulations to model ultrasonic wave propagation in concentrated slurries are considered with the aim of identifying an appropriate model. Systems of high density particles are considered in which viscous losses dominate. Simulations were performed and compared with experimental data. Although qualitative agreement between theory and experiment was found, no adequate model was identified. It is concluded further development is required particularly in the description of suspension viscosity in the immediate vicinity of suspended particles. © 2005 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
