Given the increasing prevalence of telomere research in the healthcare field, this paper first analyzes how newfound discoveries in the domain link to aging, and then explores how research has found a correlation between telomere shortening and health complications in particular age-related diseases. Afterwards, the complications faced by elderly populations due to age-related diseases and chronic conditions are discussed, including the association between increased chronic conditions and increased out-of-pocket expenditures. Then, a general overview about how aging has impacted the US healthcare system is addressed, including aspects such as healthcare expenditures, Medicare, access to resources, and overcrowding. A brief overview of how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted access to healthcare and brought about discussion of reform is also mentioned. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
