This article examines elements of the force analysis of a flanged joint operating under the pressure of the working medium to establish the optimal width of the sealing gasket and its location between the flanges. For joints with gaskets in which capillaries may exist, it is recommended that the width if the gasket be no less than 9 mm. In the majority of informational sources, however, it is recommended that the width of the gasket be selected (without adequate verification) proceeding from its material, the pressure of the working medium, and the diameter and thickness of the gasket. |
