Presents the case of two infants with meningitis caused by Proteus mirabilis. Administration of gentamicin to the patient intramuscularly for 14 days and ampicillin intravenously after sensitivity test had indicated their use; Role played by premature rupture of the membrane and urinary tract infection in the development of the disease; Contamination traced to a nurse who was literally abusing the hexachlorophene by forcefully rubbing the umbilicus of newborn infants with it. |
