The article presents a study that examined changes in levels of hemoglobin and hematocrits among children and youth participants between 1968 and 1971. The study comprised of the development of Children and Youth Projects (C & Y). Hemoglobin or hematocrit determinations were performed in the C & Y Projects. Median hemoglobin and hematocrit values were higher in 1971 than in 1968 and greatest differences were found among preschool children. The prevalence of low values of hemoglobin among black children was twice that among white children. |
