Historians, arguably, have been most reluctant to adopt the computer for teaching and not particularly enthusiastic about its applicability to their research. This article introduces a collection of surveys of ways historians have used computers across the globe, each with a significant portion devoted to their own practice of history. What follows here details the professional life of one historian who embraced the computer age rather earlier than most, intended mainly to indicate how it has changed what many historians do.
