Presents the case of a five-week-old infant with osteomyelitis of the vertebra in whom lumbar puncture probably contributed to the spread of infection to the adjacent skin and to the superior intervertebral disc and vertebral body. Difficulty of early diagnosis of spondylitis in infants; Risk of trauma of the intervetebral disc by lumbar puncture needle, with or without the introduction of infection. |
